About the festival

The Jeongeupsa Cultural Festival is a local cultural festival themed on 「Jeongeupsa」, the only surviving Baekje song, and the love of the Jeongeupsa woman. 「Jeongeupsa」 is a song sung by a wife praying to the moon for the safe return of her husband, who went out as a peddler, and is a Baekje song whose lyrics are recorded in Hangul in the Joseon-era 『Akhak Gwebeom』. The festival aims to carry on the historical meaning of Jeongeupsa and to introduce Jeongeup's unique cultural resources to citizens and visitors. The main traditional events are the chaesu ritual of drawing water from Jeonghae Village and the Yeoin Jerye rite honoring the spirit of the Jeongeupsa woman. This year's new program is a Baekje costume experience, where visitors wear Baekje-era clothing and headdresses and take commemorative photos. It is a festival that introduces the legend of Jeongeupsa and Baekje culture through traditional rituals and experiences.
