About the festival
Since its launch in 1997, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival has led the industrialization and globalization of Jeonju hanji, showcasing the excellence of thousand-year-old Jeonju paper. It reinterprets hanji’s many functions and values culturally, expressing the beauty of paper that has long accompanied people’s lives. The annual National Hanji Craft Competition discovers works by craftspeople across the country, and the National Children’s Hanji Art Contest lets children unleash their imagination on hanji, helping future generations appreciate this native paper culture. The festival also presents hanji as modern cultural content for all generations.
