About the festival
The 16th Gwangju Biennale, opening on September 5, 2026, takes its title “You Must Change Your Life” from the last line of Rainer Maria Rilke’s 1908 poem. In the poem, the speaker faces a broken ancient statue and suddenly sees the world differently. As our viewpoint and position change, we realize we can no longer live as before: I must change.
