About the festival

Launched in 2009 and now in its 18th edition, the Seoul Lantern Festival is a major nighttime light festival in Seoul, attracting an annual average of 3.4 million visitors over the past three years. The 2026 festival takes place along Cheonggyecheon Stream, from Cheonggye Plaza to Samilgyo Bridge, under the theme 'Romance of Seoul: A Symphony of Light'. The exhibition is divided into four zones: 'Hanyang Overture', 'Analog Rhapsody', 'Neon Sonata' and 'Fantasy of Light', each with its own presentation. Displays include hanji paper lanterns, media art and other illuminated installations, complemented by hands-on activities and special events. The festival runs from December 11, 2026 (Fri) to January 31, 2027 (Sun), with viewing hours from 18:00 to 23:00 daily.
