Nowon Moonlight Walk

About the festival

This is a nighttime public art festival unique to Nowon-gu, displaying lantern and light sculptures that are both popular and artistic along the eco-friendly Danghyeoncheon Stream, and offering content in which residents take part directly, such as making and explaining the works. It began in 2014 as the Nowon Lantern Festival and was held in spring until 2019. In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it was renamed Nowon Moonlight Walk with the goal of "healing through art" and moved to autumn, as it remains today. Besides the main exhibition of artistic lantern and light sculptures, programs include Resident-Participation Community Art, in which artists are matched with local residents to create and exhibit works; Moonlight Guides, in which residents act as docents and explain the works to visitors; and weekend cultural performances by local artists.
