About the festival

From October 24 to 25, 2026, the 31st Suncheon Nagan Eupseong Folk Culture Festival is held at Suncheon Nagan Eupseong Fortress, which preserves more than 600 years of history and tradition, under the theme "Nagan, Stacking Joy and Connecting Generations." At Nagan Eupseong, where Joseon-era fortress walls, government buildings, and thatched-roof villages come together, people of all ages can enjoy the charm and spirit of traditional culture. The Nagan magistrate's arrival procession that opens the festival, the gatekeeper changing ceremony, and the mounted general's patrol ritual recreate the look of a Joseon-era fortress town. Residents join in Baekjung-nori and wall-building, and there are tightrope walking, traditional martial arts, Kim Bin-gil's changgeuk, and pansori and gayageum byeongchang performances. The "Nagan Rak Festa," featuring popular songs and more, offers a lively stage for all generations. Participatory events include the Great Tug of War, ssireum and arm-wrestling contests, and yutnori, and a variety of hands-on programs such as making traditional hopae tags, straw-and-water crafts, and archery are also available. Together with local food, visitors can feel the joy of a special festival that connects the past and the present.
