About the festival

"2026 Mokpo Cultural Heritage Night Tour" is an event that uses cultural heritage at night, hosted and organized by Mokpo City with the support of the Korea Heritage Service and the regional government. It takes place for three days, from October 30 to November 1, 2026, around the Mokpo Modern History and Culture Space, and is a cultural event planned so that visitors can experience Mokpo's modern history and national heritage at night. Subtitled "Modern Times, the Story of Mokpo's Opening, 129," it deals mainly with the opening of Mokpo in 1897, the Korean Empire's first self-initiated open port city, and the formation of the modern city. The main heritage sites include the Modern History Museum Hall 1 and Hall 2, Simsang Elementary School, Gyeongdong Cathedral, and the Mokpo Fortification, which are historic places and architectural heritage. The program consists of viewing and experience activities that link night views with cultural heritage, traditional culture performances, and other performances, conveying the history of Mokpo's opening and the historical value of its modern heritage to visitors.
