Moirangge Gabojangge

About the festival

Go back to 1894, the day the Donghak Peasant Army marched toward Jeonju Fortress. "Moirangge Gabojangge" is a special historical and cultural event in which citizens become Donghak peasant soldiers themselves and take part at the heart of history. Following the historic moments of the Donghak Peasant Army's entry into Jeonju Fortress and the Jeonju Peace Accord in 1894, citizens take part directly through street marches, plays, and hands-on experiences, and relive the story of that day. Beyond simply watching a scene of history, participants join in and help create it, gaining a more vivid understanding of the history and spirit of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and experiencing the meaning of community and the value of citizen participation through gathering and communicating together.
