About the festival

In the late 1990s, Bonghwa-gun began to see the high-quality pine mushrooms growing wild in its clean, deep forests as a resource for the future. Bonghwa pine mushrooms, a rare resource found only in pristine forests above 600 m, stand out in aroma and texture and caught the attention of gourmets. To share this treasure, the county planned a nature and food festival for residents and visitors, and the Bonghwa Pine Mushroom Festival began in 1997 with mushroom picking, tastings and specialty sales. With residents’ active participation it has become one of Korea’s leading autumn food festivals, now combining traditional performances, farm experiences and tour programs while spreading the value of conservation.
