About the festival

The Gwangju Chungjang Nostalgia Festival, which began on Chungjang-ro, the top shopping district in Dong-gu, is the largest festival representing Gwangju. As Korea’s first nostalgia-themed festival, it uses the universal theme of memories to bring together every generation and background, sharing cherished memories and creating new ones. Set around Geumnam-ro and the May 18th Democracy Plaza, places of deep meaning in the history of democracy, it carries historical and cultural value beyond a local festival, symbolizing citizens’ hope for the future. Named an honorary Culture and Tourism Festival from 2024 to 2027 and winner of the Global Masterpiece grand prize at the 2026 Korea Festival Content Awards for the tenth straight year, it aims to grow into an international festival embracing the cultures and memories of Asia with the Asia Culture Center.
