About the festival

The Maple Tree Forest Path at the Independence Hall of Korea is one of Cheonan's best-known autumn spots, a walking trail of about 3.2 km where thousands of maple trees form a tunnel. The Independence Hall Maple Tree Forest Path Healing Festival runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from October 16 to November 15 and is a cultural festival that combines the natural scenery of the grounds in autumn with the history of the site. During the festival, walking courses centered on the red-leafed maple path are open, along with a variety of cultural events. Night-time guided tours of the Japanese Government-General Building Demolition Memorial Park convey historical lessons and the spirit of independence. A special night lighting display commemorating the 150th anniversary of Baekbeom Kim Gu's birth is installed, and a media facade combining the latest media art is shown against the backdrop of the Tower of the Nation, offering visitors a distinctive night-time attraction. In addition to relaxing on the forest path during the day, the festival provides a cultural space where evening lighting, media art and historical commentary come together. Combining restful time in nature with a symbolic historic site, it is a complex healing festival that all generations can enjoy together.
