About the festival

The Masan Gagopa Chrysanthemum Festival is Changwon's signature autumn festival, held since 2000 to promote the excellence of Masan chrysanthemums and boost chrysanthemum consumption. Masan is the place where six farms around Hoewon-dong began the first commercial chrysanthemum cultivation in Korea in 1961 and where chrysanthemums were first exported to Japan in 1972. At the festival you can encounter the history of Masan's chrysanthemum industry, which grew on a mild climate and cultivation skills, and various chrysanthemum works. The 26th Masan Gagopa Chrysanthemum Festival is held around 3·15 Marine Nuri Park, Haepo Waterside Park, and Marine New Town. Centered on the chrysanthemum exhibition, various events unfold, including a multimedia fireworks show, a sea nakhwa-nori (burning willow-flower sparks) display, and the Gukhyang Song Festival. Also prepared are an Indie Music Festa and cultural performances by local artists, a chrysanthemum bonsai exhibition, chrysanthemum dance cheerleading, and experience programs, and you can enjoy chrysanthemum works, performances, and food together against the backdrop of the sea.
