2026 Incheon Wondosa Rite and Nakseom Festival

About the festival

Since ancient times, our ancestors held rites at famous large mountains, rivers, and seas to pray for the peace of the country and its towns and to seek blessings. For the sea, rites were held in places such as Incheon, Suncheon, and Gangneung during the Joseon Dynasty, and among them, Incheon Dohobu held rites for the god of the West Sea at Wondo (Nakseom). The Incheon Wondosa Rite is the ceremony that the local magistrate of Incheon, on behalf of the king, held in spring and autumn at the shrine called Wondosa, built on Wondo in the Joseon period, gathering the spirit tablets of various islands. The 2026 Incheon Wondosa Rite & Nakseom Festival is a Michuhol-gu festival that combines a recreation of the ritual with a harmonious procession village festival.
