About the festival

Beginning with the first Chungnyeolje in 1995 and continuing for 32 years, the Dongnae Eupseong Fortress History Festival is Dongnae-gu’s signature history education festival. Now selected as a 2026–2027 Culture and Tourism Festival, the 32nd edition invites visitors into the drama of 1592. It opens with a grand procession of the Dongnae magistrate with hundreds of participants, and a battle reenactment musical staged on the actual battlefield of the Imjin War uses media art to convey the resolve of the defenders. A giant three-strand tug-of-war brings everyone together, alongside an outdoor escape game, character cookie making and the Dongnae Market, where you can spend a day as a fortress resident with old coins in hand.
